A bit more about the weekend, location and accommodation
We have a maximum of 12 places for our exclusive 2/3-night retreat taking place in 4-star luxury beautiful, stone-built barn conversion offering luxury, spacious accommodation surrounded by spectacular scenery in the rural Peak District village of Earl Sterndale. Full of character, with impressive beamed vaulted ceilings, exposed stone walls and superb gardens which benefit from stunning, far reaching countryside views. Popular with walkers and cyclists, the village is home to a local pub which is just a stone’s throw from the property and has been established for over 400 years.

Nearby Longnor, 2 miles, has additional local facilities including a couple of traditional pubs, a cafe and fish and chip shop all set around the historic, cobbled market square. The market town of Buxton, famous for its spring water, diverse architecture and iconic opera house, is around 15 minutes away, and the ever popular Bakewell, home to the magnificent historic houses of Chatsworth and Haddon Hall, is around 20 minutes away.

A bit about the walk.
Earl Sterndale, five miles south of Buxton, is ringed by beautiful hills such as Parkhouse, Chrome and High Wheeldon and superb walking country. Despite this it is a relatively unknown area, even for many of those who regularly walk in the Peak District.
This short walk through stunningly beautiful countryside visits Dowel Dale looked down upon by Chrome Hill on the west side of the dale, and Parkhouse Hill on the east. Chrome is recorded as the highest Hill in the county and the urge to make a detour and climb it may prove irresistible on this walk. The view from the top on a clear day is magnificent.

Important archaeological finds were made at Dowel Cave, which was used by the earliest known settlers in the White Peak. The cave dwellers lived by hunting, prey being plentiful in the area.

During the earlier stages of the walk the route passes midway between Glutton and Glutton Grange, dated 1675. The cheese factory at Glutton, built in the 1870s, produced Wensleydale Cheese until the 1960s.

The food served on the retreat will be plentiful and wholesome and vegetarian with special dietary requirements also catered for.

This weekend is suitable for all levels from complete beginners to intermediate level.
