Ashtanga Vinyasa Flow

The traditional Ashtanga Vinyasa sequence synchronises movement with the breath. We practice Ashtanga using ‘Uji’ breath and we remain in postures for 5 breaths to open and create space in the body, to be present and aware, to release tension and to create a calm mind. It is a dynamic practice, that builds strength in the body and is known for its cleansing and detoxifying properties creating from the heat created from the breath, movement, bandhas and drishti, making this the perfect yoga practice for anyone looking for a challenging yoga practice. Offering variations and modification so the class is suitable for all levels allowing each individual the freedom to explore and find their own pace and level and taking time to breath, ‘to be present’ and to develop your practice with a deeper understanding. I currently offer a beginners class and a Mindful Ashtanga Vinyasa Flow class where we focus on being present, with breath within each asana to develop self awareness and connection, to feel embodied and alive, energised and calm all at the same time. I encourage everyone to take the practice at their own pace, take rest if needed, use props if required and to take vinyasa’s or not – your practice – your choice. You can make this practice as dynamic or as gentle as you choose.

At the same time there is an emphasis on relaxing the muscular tissue.

Yin can be challenging owing to holding the postures for long periods. The perfect complement to dynamic (Yang) forms of yoga.
